India and the British Empire
The british Empire was the biggest colonial power in history. In 1921 over 37 million km² was under their control, the total population was 500 million (about a quarter of the worlds population at that time).

In 1756 the British East India Company begins to submit many regions of India. They managed to dispose the influence of other european colonial powers like Portugal, the Netherlands and France. 1857/58 parts of the population soar above the governance of the Britisch East India Company (Sepoy-Aufstand). After putting down the rebellion the company is suspended and India is put under direct control of Great Britain. From 1877 to 1947 the british monarch were called Empress of India/ Emperor of India.
